Business FAQs
Why is satellite broadband great for business users?
Satellite broadband allows you to operate your business from anywhere. If you dream off setting up your own small business in the countryside but have been put off by a lack of internet connectivity, satellite broadband could be the answer. With satellite broadband, your place of work can be as remote as you need it to be. We use a satellite dish to connect you to the internet via a geostationary satellite in space. This means that all you need to connect is a clear view of the southern sky.
As a business user what are the main advantages of a Pro tariff?
Three of the key benefits for your business are:
(i) You’ll benefit from substantial data allowances to meet your specific business needs.
(ii) You can operate very remotely. For example, you can run CCTV and remote servers. Our systems are often used for this for in solar, hydro and wind farms.
(iii) You can link with a Virtual Private Network, allowing you to securely access a private network and share data remotely through public networks. You will need a static IP address, which only comes with a Pro tariff.
For all your specific business requirements we recommend that you talk to our support team first, so we can help you decide what plan would suit your business best.
Are there any limitations on bigblu’s broadband I should be aware of?
Very few. Unlike some of our competitors, our packages accept direct connection to Apple™, Linux™, Unix™ or Windows™ based operating systems. However, satellite technology does introduce limitations in certain applications. We recommend discussing your needs with one of our support team before you order. We’ll then be able to let you know if there are any performance issues or limiting factors. As well as give you specific product advice to make sure you can get the very best out of your bigblu broadband connection.
Is there anything that bigblu’s satellite broadband packages are not suitable for?
- Some remote-control software (satellite broadband is ideal for small numbers of large file transactions, less so for large numbers of small files or transactions).
- Heavy uplink traffic, such as Web or FTP hosting
- Real-time on-line gaming can also be compromised due to latency issues.
How can IP-Sec VPN applications be delivered?
When required we can provide a Private Network Service where customer traffic can be passed through a TCP/IP Accelerated tunnel which will operate as a layer 2 type network. This ensures: good performance, guaranteed security, citrix application compatibility, and VoIP compatibility. As part of this solution we provide TCP/IP acceleration hardware for your remote site and a hosted TCP/IP centralised platform. If this is a service you require, you should contact us directly so that we can provide a quote tailored to your needs.
Are there limits to how much data I can transfer?
If your business is within range of our Fixed Wireless Pro options, you will have unlimited data. Otherwise our satellite broadband pro packages range from 5GB to 150GB of Priority Data.
It is possible to book dedicated and unlimited bandwidth on a monthly basis. Let us know if this is of interest so we can offer a tailored quote.
Will satellite ‘latency’ issues affect my business’s day-to-day office needs?
It won’t. We use the latest acceleration technology including an integrated performance enhancing proxy (PEP) with pre-fetching. This technology will provide you and your employees with instantaneous on-screen performance.
Is bad weather a problem?
Extreme weather can slow the system. However, it is important to note the overall KA Sat performance is 99.5%, which is better than almost all fixed-line services.
How can I check my package and see how much data I have used?
You can see all of the information about your package and contract as well as a summary of how much data you have used, how much you have left and when the data will refresh in the bigblu customer portal. You can log into your portal here .
